23 medals for Northcliff at invitation only athletics competition
NORTHCLIFF – 23 medals in the bag for Northcliff High School's top athletes.
After winning the inter-high athletics for 21 consecutive years, Northcliff High School still had a few tricks up their sleeve as a bonus to their big sports wins this year.
Athletes from the school took part in the Prestige Athletics competition at the Germiston Stadium on 6 September.
The competition is by invitation only – only the best performing athletes at the inter-high were chosen to participate.
The school’s athletes not only had the honour of being invited, they managed to run their way to 23 medals of which 11 were gold.
In addition to it raining medals for the school, three of their athletes took home the title of overall best in middle distance and sprints.
“Prestige is not about schools, it’s about individual players,” said Neil van der Walt, the school’s head of athletics. “It’s an opportunity for the athletes – especially after working so hard at winning the inter-high – to run for themselves and show their individual skill.”
Medal tally:
11 gold medals
5 silver medals
7 bronze medals
Category winners:
Tyson Nyalunga – best senior middle distance
Emmanuel Tshituka – best senior sprinter
