Drug raid takes place at Coronationville High School

CORONATIONVILLE – A drug raid at a high school resulted in various items being confiscated from schoolchildren.

Sophiatown police conducted a drug search at Coronationville High School on 13 September at the request of the school.

Spokesperson for Sophiatown Police Station, Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said the search was aimed at Grade 10s at the school. The police gave the schoolchildren a chance to declare anything they may have which may be against the school’s code of conduct.

Several items were confiscated including one packet of dagga, a razor and pepper spray.

“The items which were declared were confiscated and handed over to the principal who is responsible for reprimanding learners. We also discovered a packet of dagga outside which had been thrown outside a window,” said De Bruyn.

He said schoolchildren should be aware that it is illegal to be in possession of drugs and they will be held accountable.

“Juveniles can still be arrested and put into holding cells called a place of safety. It is the school’s responsibility to ensure the school is a drug-free zone hence they call the police to assist them with the problem.”
