While six suspects were arrested in connection with the incident on 7 June, one was released due to a lack of evidence linking him to the crime.

Their arrest came three days after Gregory Naidoo (57) Melanie Jansen (51) and her daughter Rakiel Naidoo (23) disappeared from their Northcliff home and their bodies later found in Centurion, burnt beyond recognition.

The men briefly appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 15 August. In addition to the kidnapping and murder charges, the men face charges of theft, housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The case has since been postponed to 20 September for further investigation and a possibility of an indictment being served, which increases the likelihood of it being moved to the High Court.
