Pathways Nursery School gave it their all at this year’s Garden World Spring Festival garden design show and won three awards.
The show is held in Muldersdrift from 28 July to 3 September. According to the Garden World website, 21 gardens were on display which is the most the show has ever displayed.
The design festival mainly showcases professional designer gardens, however, there is a section allocated for school gardens.
This year’s festival theme is Colour my world, and Pathways decided to go with a colourful bee garden. Jenna Griffiths, principal of the school, said they decided on the theme as bees were important to life on earth, indirectly providing the planet with food and also adding colour to the world through pollinating flowers.
“No bees equals no flowers,” she said. “Bees need our help and we thought we could spread this message through out bee-welcoming pre-school garden.
“We came out winners and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.”
The school won three awards for their water wise garden and the judges commented on the use of their companion planting in creating it.
Griffiths added that the school was passionate about sustainability and caring for the environment. The school has its own vegetable boxes as well as a sensory garden which pre-schoolers can plant in, prune and water.
