Help keep animals warm this winter

SOPHIATOWN – The Animal Anti-Cruelty League encourages members of the public to donate much-needed blankets to animals under their care.

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) hosted another successful outreach programme aimed at providing communities’ pets with medical treatment.

The league also received donated blankets from members of the community which will be used by animals at the organisation’s premises.

Ward 69 councillor Genevieve Sherman attended the blanket handover on behalf of Ward 86 councillor Philip Kruger, who is away on holiday. The handover took place on 3 July.

She said the league also hosted an outreach programme in one of her wards in Westbury , and the response from the community has been great.

“Members from the community come in numbers when AACL is in the area and I’ve received positive feedback about the good condition most of the pets are in. The AACL is doing a very good job in our communities,” said Sherman.

Henry Roesteorff with Lady, and David van der Bank with Khan wait their turn.

Residents lined up with their pets in order to get them treated for a number of different disorders.

Kade Green said he has brought his pet to the outreach quite a few times and it has been a great experience. “I find it very helpful that the organisation comes to our communities so our pets can get assistance. My pet has been getting treatment for his eczema for three years and the vets are very hands on,” said Green.

Animal Anti-Cruelty League public relations officer Heather Cowie said the blanket donation will help assist the 250 to 300 animals who need the blankets.

The organisation goes through a number of blankets that are chewed and damaged by the animals. She encourages residents who would also like to donate blankets to contact them if they would like the league to collect them or donor can visit their premises to drop them off.
