An eighth Eisteddfod diploma for Orban Private Primary School

WESTDENE – Orban Private Primary School prides themselves on winning a prestigious award

Orban Private Primary School is a school of many talents. They were awarded the 8th eisteddfod diploma for the magical Peter Pan Production.

The four-day production was made up of two casts and all the children from grades 1–7 participated.

Head of the creative arts department, Michelle Becker said she works closely with the music teacher, Ana Silent to bring the production to life. Becker focuses on characterization and building the schoolchildren’s confidence. The music teacher focuses on the musical aspects and both of them focus on the choreography.

Head of the creative arts department, Michelle Becker and music teacher, Ana Silent are proud of the school’s accolades.

“Peter Pan was a very exciting production which took place from 22 to 25 May. During the day we did the DVD recordings and in the evening, the performances. On the Thursday we invited the residents from Eeufees Old Age Home who were treated to a special performance after the show. We have two casts and believe every child should be exposed to the stage from a young age,” said Becker.

She added that drama, art and music are compulsory subjects that children have fun participating in every week. The main aim is more than getting them on stage, it’s about being comfortable with themselves, being able to laugh and build each other up. The school has English and Afrikaans classes.

“Each year we add in an Afrikaans scene to cater to both groups of children.”

The school is no stranger to receiving recognition for their amazing artistic abilities. An adjudicator from the National Eisteddfod Academy judges the production.

“This year, for the eighth year running, we received the highest diploma, which is the highest accolade you can get for a musical production. We are very excited about that and it’s a great honour. I would say our winning formula would be for our children to always have fun.”

Becker would like to thank the children, parents and the school for allowing them to be creative.
