Baking the community better one cookie at a time

CLAREMONT – Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue-Federasie shares its delight in helping make their community better through their cookie project.

The Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue-Federasie (SAVF) has a cookie project aimed at making the community better – one cookie at a time.

Community members can enjoy a packet of guilt-free homemade baked goods knowing that every bite they take helps a deserving community.

The Newlands-based organisation also helps women become entrepreneurs and learn business skills through their skills development project.

The proceeds of these baked goods are put back into the community to not only help fund a daily feeding scheme for 70 children, but to also give six families food parcels every month.

There is an array of homemade cookies to choose from including ginger biscuits, rusks and chocolate chip cookies.

Millicent Jacobs says there is nothing better than helping the community.

One of the women who puts an apron on every morning to help bake is Millicent Jacobs.

Jacobs has been with SAVF for about a year and she would have it no other way. “Children come from different schools in the community to get a plate full of food and it feels good to give them something. What I do helps a lot of people who now look up to me and are grateful. The children also show me a great amount of respect,” Jacob said.

The organisation has high hopes of expanding and wants to help more people through various initiatives.

The various packaged cookies can be purchased at Suid Afrikaanse Vroue-Federasie.
