We love U Foundation members clean the streets of Brixton

BRIXTON – Local government teams up with an international foundation to clean up Brixton.

Members of the International We Love U Foundation teamed up with Ward 69 councillor Genevieve Sherman for their annual worldwide clean-up campaign.

The clean up took place in Brixton on 21 May in conjunction with other campaigns in 170 countries on six continents. More than 60 members of the foundation gathered in Caroline Street before embarking on their campaign to clean up several streets in the area.

“It is good to see so many young people here. They will adopt a clean-up mentality and take it from cleaning this street to using it in their personal lives to become proud of their vicinity,” Sherman said. She added that since landfill sites are filling up, the mentality of cleaning up will soon have to evolve into one of recycling.

Member of the foundation, Resego Matlakala said, “Many of the volunteers here today are students who sacrificed this time, which they could have used to study for their exams, to bring change to the community.” He explained that the chairperson of the foundation, Zhang Gil-Jah, wants members to share the unconditional love of a mother during the annual clean-up in the community and also work with local government to achieve this.

“It may seem small but it shows the community that something is happening and it gives hope,” Sherman added.

The foundation embarks on practical initiatives such as environmental protection campaigns, blood drives, disaster relief, water projects, charitable giving and community support. All these initiatives are done to show the importance of a mother’s love within the global community.
