WATCH: Motorist mugs woman in front of street guard

ROOSEVELT PARK – A pedestrian is mugged on Anreith Road.

A woman was mugged by a suspect who jumped out of a car and accosted her while she was walking on Anreith Road in Roosevelt Park.

The incident took place on 9 April in full view of a nearby street guard.

Suburban Crime Prevention director Clive Maher said two men in a red VW polo were involved in the robbery and managed to escape with a street guard standing less than 15m away.

“I don’t believe in street guards being hired as security,” he said. “I believe they need to be registered with Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority. They need to have a two-way radio to communicate in order to call for help and be properly trained. I would like to know who hired the street guard because the guard is clearly not equipped and does not know how to handle the situation.”

He added that his security company would start patrolling Anreith Road.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for Linden Police Station, Captain Walter Spencer said a case was opened on 10 April, no arrests have been made and it’s still under investigation.
Spencer advised people who were faced with a similar situation to get a ITC number from their service provider and report it to the police.
