18 holes of fun

NORTHCLIFF – Northcliff High School's Golf Day is a great success.

Golfers were in high spirits as they raised funds for Northcliff High School at their annual golf day.

The event took place on 28 March and was organised by the school’s parents’ association.

Alicia Perkins, Gayle Kennedy, Phiippa Thompson and Jacqui Todaro during the golf day.

The school’s marketing manager, Jacqui Todaro said the school raises funds in various ways and a golf day is a great way to do so.

“It gives people the opportunity to sponsor a hole, get involved and actually play,” said Todaro.

Frank McDouall, Kevin van de Venter, Charl Esterhuysen and Mike de Chermoy help raise funds for Northcliff High School.

Golfers who participated in the golf day also played the marshmallow game – a game where players see how far they can hit a marshmallow.

“We also have a group of teachers who are also playing,” said Todaro, who added that the funds would go towards sports clothing and refurbishments around the pool area.”We also like to use the funds to also maintain the facilities around the school and be able to keep running things at an optimal level.”

Todaro added that first place went to Roger King and Kevin Loser who won putters, second place was awarded to Neil van der Walt and Paul Edmunds who won lob wedges, and third place went Martin Bailey and Daniel van der Walt who walked away with pool cleaners.

Schoolchildren were present to serve golfers with refreshments as they played.

Head girl, Philippa Thompson said the golf day is a great fundraiser for the school and the prefects were asked to serve the participating parents.

“It’s good to see parents from the school participate and raise funds. We like to see the funds go towards our sports departments such as rugby, which our school is big on, and tennis and netball,” concluded Thompson.
