Hawks hunt for fugitive Sonya Joubert who might now be in New Zealand

PARKTOWN – The Hawks have launched a manhunt for Sonya Joubert in connection with R500-million fraud.

The Serious Commercial Crimes Unit of the Hawks in Parktown has launched a manhunt for a woman who is wanted for questioning in a fraud and corruption case.

The case is connected with former Trudon IT manager, Adriaan van Vuuren who allegedly defrauded Telkom subsidiary Trudon of R500 million.

Van Vuuren made the headlines last year when his horse Abashiri won the Triple Crown (SA Derby, Gauteng Guineas and SA Classic). He has since sold the horse.

It is alleged that between 2007 and 2016, Van Vuuren fraudulently created invoices to pay a supplier for IT services required by Trudon on behalf of Telkom.

“Trudon transferred funds into Bites Bee Holding and The Corporate Choice’s account owned by… Sonya Joubert who also allegedly benefited from the fraud,” explained Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, spokesperson for the Hawks.

Numerous articles published in the media now allege that Joubert has fled to New Zealand.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts can contact the investigation officers, Warrant Officer Jonathan Makhado on 071 481 3603 and Lieutenant Colonel Mandla Mbatha on 082 781 3207.
