A swim and a walk get Auckland Prep going

AUCKLAND PARK – Auckland Park Preparatory School hosts its annual swimathon and walkathon.

Auckland Park Preparatory School recently hosted its annual Swimathon and Walkathon organised by the parents’ association and the school.

The day, which is a highlight on the school’s calendar, began at 6.15am and teachers, parents, family members and other willing supporters were all encouraged to swim or walk until 9am.

“Points were awarded for the number of swimming lengths in the pool and walking laps around the sports field,” said Kate Becker, secretary for the school.

She added that for the first time this year, supporters’ points were counted towards school house points.

Becker also shared that the class with the most supporters’ points as well as the class with the most funds collected, each won a civvies day with pizza for lunch.

Exciting prizes were awarded to the supporters with the most distances covered.

“Funds raised from the sponsorship of the two events go towards the school Parents’ Association,” she said.

Grades 3 to 7 could choose to swim either a maximum of 64 lengths (1 mile) of the pool or 40 lengths (1 km), depending on their ability, while children from Grade 0 to 2 walked a maximum of 20 laps on the sports field.
