Wishlist comes true

SOPHIATOWN–Sparrow FET College collaborates with Nandos to assist professional cookery students with items.

A new chapter began for Sparrow FET College and Nando’s during a handover ceremony that took place at the college on 13 March.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from eight different Nando’s branches that raised a sum of R40 000.

Sparrow Schools’ sales consultant Andrea Fuge said that they have been working on the partnership with the franchise for a long time and were thrilled that this day had finally arrived.

She believes that you need the right tools to do any job properly and what Nando’s has done, is give their students the skills they are going to need to be professional chefs.

“Each branch gets a certain amount of money that they can spend on these types of exercises. The branches pooled all their money together and that is where the R40 000 came from. We were then asked for our wishlist and once we had sent it, we got the items that were donated from our wishlist. Nando’s donated items such as pots which we have not been able to purchase, as well as beaters, lighters and chef clothing which we always need,” said Fuge.

The students were thrilled to get the much needed items and looked forward to putting them to good use.

Sparrow FET College professional cookery student Xolani Ziqubu said the donation added great value to their classes and made their work easier because they now have essential items.

“We feel much more motivated to be better people and to work hard at what we are trying to achieve. Once I complete my qualification I would like to travel abroad, explore what is happening overseas, try various dishes and open my business. The goal is to expand in doing what I love doing,” said Ziqubu.

Nando’s area manager Heindrich du Toit said the handover is about giving back to the community and understanding that it is the community’s support that builds their brand.

It is also an opportunity for them to give back and share with the community what they built.
