Spreading the love, one box at a time

VICTORY PARK – De La Salle Holy Cross College spends their Valentine's Day sharing the love with those in need.

VICTORY PARK – In line with Valentine’s Day, De La Salle Holy Cross College schoolchildren found a way to extend their love and caring spirit to the wider community on 13 February.
In previous years, the schoolchildren iced and delivered cupcakes to old age homes and children’s homes.
This year, with numerous local non-governmental organisations appealing for donations of basic toiletries, the schoolchildren came together to collect toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and face cloths and pack the items into gift parcels.
The parcels were delivered on Valentine’s Day to the Immaculata Shelter for the Homeless, the Woodside Sanctuary for the Mentally and Physically Handicapped, KhakhibosJabulani Boys’ Home, the Greenside Eventide Home for the Elderly and the St Dominic’s Soup Kitchen.

“Valentine’s Day is associated with love and giving gifts of chocolates and roses, but for the marginalised in our society remembering some of their basic needs is a very practical expression of love and care for them,” said teacher Jeanette Preston-Whyte, who was in charge of the outreach committee.
