New Corridors of Freedom exhibitions for Brixton, Auckland Park and Westdene

JOBURG – Attend the presentation on future Corridors of Freedom developments in your area.

JOBURG – Revitalising established old areas in Joburg is one of the main objectives of the Corridors of Freedom, and, in doing this, three adjacent neighbourhoods (Brixton, Auckland Park and Westdene) will be introduced to more business opportunities, social amenities and high-density housing.

This will all be linked to public transport and will inject new life into well-located areas, the City of Joburg said in the recent notice of public engagement sessions in these areas.

“The ongoing efforts of realising the corridors of freedom have led to another milestone within the implementation phase. The City is in the process of establishing special development zones to fast-track development applications within the Louis Botha and Empire/Perth development corridors. The mechanism will serve as a catalyst for much-needed development and renewal,” it said.

The Corridors of Freedom are development initiatives aimed at transforming entrenched settlement patterns, which have shunted the majority of residents to the city’s outskirts, away from economic opportunities and access to jobs and growth. The three neighbourhoods have been identified for their proximity to public transport routes and the Joburg CBD.

A presentation will be held on Monday, 20 February, at Marks Park on Judith Road, Emmarentia, from 6pm until 7pm about the plans for these areas. Thereafter, an exhibition will be held from 21 to 25 February from 3pm until 7pm, again at Marks Park; and on 25 February at the Brixton Recreation Centre, 66 Fulham Road, from 9am until noon. Here, City officials will be available to respond to residents’ questions. Residents can view the proposals and submit their concerns.
