Caxton Greater Joburg North Honeydew team spreads festive cheer

KYA SAND – Preschool children in Kya Sand informal settlement receive many toys.

In mid-November, the Caxton Greater Joburg North Honeydew team decorated their office Christmas tree and group editor Aimee McGill wrote in her Editor’s Note, “I am constantly aware that there are hundreds of children living beside us who will get nothing at all. This hurts my heart and I know as a community we can do something about it.”

McGill asked the community to help fill the empty space underneath the tree with toys.

“They do not need to be elaborate and they do not need to be new, they just need to bring a smile to a little face this December.”

So after a few weeks, the space underneath the tree was filled and Build a Future Preschool proved to be the worthy recipients.

The Caxton team met some of these children on 14 December and distributed the presents donated by the community.

The preschool has grown from two containers to four and about 80 children receive three meals a day for R50 a month.
