Pothole damage? This is what you need to do…

Here’s a list of the worst potholes in SA and how to claim for damage:

Johannesburg has the highest rate of potholes affecting motorists.
According to a poll hosted by Wheels24, Eastern Cape comes in second with East London scoring 23 per cent (4132) trailing behind Johannesburg with 47 per cent (8518 votes).

Potholes are commonplace throughout our City and greater South Africa.
For some cities, such as Cape Town, it’s an ongoing battle; the City of Cape Town says it “fixes 260 potholes each week”.
The results are in:

  • Johannesburg: 47 per cent (8518 votes)
  • East London: 23 per cent (4132)
  • Durban: 10 per cent (1784)
  • Bloemfontein: 10 per cent (1735)
  • Pretoria: 7 per cent (1338)
  • Cape Town: 3 per cent (591)

Motorists have become accustomed to the rigours of replacing tyres due to potholes but there is a way to circumvent the cost of new tyres.
Not only are your tyres being damaged, but your vehicle’s rims too; which lead to a whole host of other problems.
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “The public may lodge a claim with the JRA’s Legal Department for alleged damages suffered due to road and/or infrastructure (such as manhole or kerb inlet) that the JRA as a municipal-owned entity of the City of Johannesburg is mandated to maintain.”
