SA to host bowling championships

NORTHCLIFF – Northcliff Bowling will host the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship this year.

South Africa is ready to host the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships.
Not only will this be a first for the country, but a first for the continent as well, when the championships take place on 21st November at Northcliff Bowling.
Vaughn Williams, president of The Tenpin Bowling Association South Africa, said only 11 international teams would participate in the championships as some had to pull out.
He happily noted that Wales, Northern Ireland, England, Bermuda, Jersey, Mauritius, Australia, Malta, Malaysia and India, along with South Africa, would compete in the championships to ultimately try and win the coveted title.

“We are very thrilled that it is coming, though we are nervous for the challenge, we work towards achieving the best,” he said.

Williams added that the South African team was recently finalised and the selection of the players was not easy. “We had to pick players who were confident with the lane conditions.”
The team consists of four players, Ursula Ekermans, Stacey-lee Hooper, Andrew Cyster and Quintin Haywood.

Williams said three of the players had played internationally before but this would be the first time they will competing in the Commonwealth championships.
