WATCH: Flights delayed, one dead, cars washed away during Joburg storm

JOHANNESBURG - Hail stones as big as golf balls battered parts of Johannesburg this evening

Flights out of OR Tambo International Airport were delayed on Wednesday evening as stormy weather hit Johannesburg.

According to reports, at least one person has drowned in the flash floods on the N3 in Linksfield.

Buccleuch suburb has been declared a state of emergency. Shops are under water and some residents cannot enter the area. They have been advised to book into hotels.

WATCH: More than a hundred cars were pushed off the N3 highway, down an embankment, and were submerged.
