Luthuli House march expected, streets closed

JOBURG – All eyes are on Luthuli House with a march from disgruntled members expected.

Luthuli House, the African National Congress’ headquarters, is in the spotlight this morning as a march from disgruntled members of the same party expected.

President Street in the city centre has already been closed off and ANC supporters are chanting outside of Luthuli House.

It is not yet clear if the disgruntled members are marching yet.

These members are calling for the resignation of President Jacob Zuma and his National Executive Committee (NEC). Organisers of the march told media that South Africans have watched how the ANC has deteriorated but added there are ANC members who are ready to change this.

An organiser of the march, Gugu Ndima, said they would  converge at Beyers Naude as planned and make their way to Luthuli House to present their demands.

“Should we be attacked let it be, we will not retreat for ours is a just cause.” said Ndima.

Police are present at Luthuli House this morning. Security is tight, but no violence has been reported yet.
