A London walk to remember

AUCKLAND PARK – Children fire get ready to head to London for the next monopoly moonwalk.

Children of Fire are preparing for the monopoly walk that will take place in the United Kingdom.

The walk is in remembrance of the great fire of 1666 that swept through London.

According to the Luminarium: Encyclopedia Project site, the fire began on the night of 2 September 1666, with a small fire on Pudding Lane, in the bakeshop of Thomas Farynor –the baker to King Charles II.

The children are in eager anticipation of their peer, Mbali Hlela’s journey to London to be part of the monopoly walk. There she will fundraise for the Children of Fire organisation and also spend close to a month in the city.

She expressed her complete excitement for her first international adventure. “I can’t wait to see the King and Queen also, I will get to see Buckingham Palace,” Hlela said with a smile to marvel over.

To have their own special commemoration of the great loss London faced from the fire, the children drew beautiful pictures which they worked on together, to depict the fire. They put their special artwork on one of their classroom walls.
