Fairies spread some wisdom

FAIRLAND – The Fairland Fairies erect their first lending library at the Fairland Gauteng Park.

The Fairland Fairies are at it again. Have you spotted their latest work yet?

Fairland Gauteng Park on Kessel Street has a new little surprise to it. The fairies have put up their own Little Lending Library. Inspired by the Emmarentia Park lending library, the fairies thought it best that their next venture should be the enlightening of minds.

As they are all about improving their community and how residents think of their neighbourhood, it was important to them to do something that promoted honesty and a sense of giving back.

Fairland fairies is a group of about nine women so far who got together in hopes to change their community. One of the group’s delightful fairies, Kim Wiehe said that their first project was a vegetable garden at the Fairland Police station.

“We just want to pay it forward,” said Wiehe.

The lending library is the first of many little libraries they plan on erecting. “The next library we plan on putting up will be at the Fairland Police station,” explained Wiehe. The fairies also plan to spread the library across most parks in Fairland.

By the end of the first day, the little library was full of books that avid readers could enjoy.

“Hopefully, other communities feel compelled to start their own initiatives that bring people together,” said Wiehe.

She added that there tends to be too much negativity and that people do not socialise enough. “There needs to be cohesion and people working together to better their communities,” said Wiehe.
