Domestic worker conspires in robbery

PINE PARK – Domestic worker gives up the names of her accomplices.

A domestic worker cracked under pressure during an interrogation at the Linden Police following a robbery.

Last week, the homeowner, his wife, a friend and the domestic worker was at home in Keith Avenue Pinepark when two unknown men broke in. The homeowner was overpowered by the men, and his wife and the domestic worker were taken to a separate room.

The hostages were tied up by one suspect while the other suspect went through valuables and took money, computer equipment and cellular phones. One of the victims managed to untie himself and then helped the other victims free themselves. They then called the police.

A case was opened, and during the interrogation and witness accounts, the Linden branch commander, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Raath identified some irregularities, and the domestic worker was arrested. Linden Police Captain Alex Vermaak said that after the investigation, the domestic worker admitted to being involved and gave up the identities and details of her accomplices. “She had been working for that family for three years,” said Vermaak.

Another suspect was arrested in Dieplsoot by Johannesburg West cluster crime intelligence and one suspect is still at large. “All leads will be taken as serious leads and the police will do everything in their power to bring all accomplices to book,” said Vermaak. He said that it is a travesty when domestic workers become accomplices in violent crimes especially in cases as serious as robberies. The two arrested were a 35-year-old female and 30-year-old male and they both reside in Dieplsoot.
