Holiday programme for Windsor

LINDEN – School holidays will be made fun with talks on drug awareness.

The Linden Police and various stakeholders have come together to create a holiday programme for the pupils of Windsor.

The City of Johannesburg (COJ) Department of Social Development, Gauteng Provincial Department of Social Development, South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), Linden Police, JMPD, Department of Health, school forums, South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) and members of the community will be taking part in the holiday outreach programme at the Windsor Recreational Centre.

The programme will go on for three days on 13, 14 and 15 July with the objectives to develop the personal skills of pupils to increase their capacity to make informed and healthy choices, to identify and treat potentially harmful substance use prior to the onset of dependency and to ensure that pupils utilise their school holidays fruitfully.

Stakeholders will have the opportunity to share the programmes they are implementing to address drug and substance abuse. There will be activities, entertainment, discussions and talks to educate the youth of Windsor about drugs. Pupils were informed about the programme through their schools, posters and through the media.

The holiday outreach programme will be hosting 100 children for the three days from 11am to 2pm and they will be treated to information pamphlets, sound and music systems, and a lunch daily.

Linden Police Sargent Orden Masumpa said, “We will be targeting challenges the community is facing and finding solutions.”
