27 youths bowl

LINDEN – Linden Bowling Club opens it lawns to children as they spend Youth Day bowling for the first time.

The perfectly manicured lawns of Linden Bowling Club were made even bolder with 27 fresh faces.

On 16 June the club played host to the children of Villa of Hope, a social upliftment and development initiative in Nancefield. The children were coached by top professional bowlers, Esme Haley from the club and Tracy-Lee Botha from Bedfordview Bowling Club, gold medal winners at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“Some of the children have great potential and this is very important for any sport. We, as a club, would be happy to assist the children to realise their full potential,” said Haley.

President of the club, Darrel Johnston, said it was a pleasure to host the children as it turned out to be a great day of learning and entertainment.

Director of Villa of Hope, Zorina Wentworth said this was the first time the children were exposed to the sport. “This was a pleasant surprise, an educational day filled with activity and fun thanks to all who were involved in making the day,” said Wentworth.

To make the day a success, Linden Bowling club partnered with Broll Property Group, and Casa do Sol School provided transport to and from the club. The children were also treated to lunch and fun activities, including jumping castles.

“Opportunities like these are rare and therefore highly valued and cherished by the Villa of Hope. The Linden Bowling Club had more than just a chance to pass a favoured sport to the next generation, but they had a chance to ignite, inspire, educate and connect, which was well received by the children,” said Wentworth.

She added that Villa of Hope is immensely grateful for the opportunity they were given. “We look forward to having future professional bowlers as a result of this fun excursion,” said Wenworth.

Divisional director of Broll Property, Elaine Wilson, said it was a humbling experience to see the happy faces and enthusiasm from the children.
