An age-long battle resolved

FOURWAYS – Montecasino hosts stand up comedian, Vir Das, in his show Battle of Da Sexes.

India’s highest selling theatrical stand-up comedian, big-screen actor and Bollywood Star, Vir Das, brought the comedy, Battle of Da Sexes, to South Africa for the first time.

The show ran from 27 to 29 May at Montecasino’s Teatro Theatre.

Vir Das said, “Battle of Da Sexes is an insightful, fun and laugh-out-loud comedy-drama all about the eternal battle between men and women. It is a battle not with arms and gunpowder but with bellies and eyeliner.”

The opening act gave the audience insight into human evolution with comic, TV and film actor, Kavi Shastri, who explained how men and women developed from single cell organisms to early Homo sapiens.

The show with Vir Das then dived into the makeup and psyche of both men and women and explored different fields such as the physique, language, music, movies, books, leadership, business and crime among others. Vir Das spun jokes around facts about the human body and scientific studies of the two genders.

“Did you know that women read up to nine books a year while men only read five? Or have you ever heard of something called mirror neurons in our brain which enable us to enjoy fiction and that women have 25 per cent more of these than men, which is why more women are fiction readers and more men are non-fiction readers?” Vir Das quotes from his show.

Near the end of the show, Vir Das said that the only fair way to judge the battle was based on laughter as it is a universal language. He said there were hidden microphones in the theatre to measure the different decibels between a man and a woman’s laughter. After displaying a decibel graph the women walked away victorious.
