GALLERY: Time warp to the future

VICTORY PARK – Crossroads School celebrates 50 years with a time capsule and distinct colours.

Crossroads School celebrated its 50 years of great education with bold colours and a time capsule to marvel over.

The big celebration was held on 25 May and pupils celebrated their school’s establishment in a unique way.

The festivities began at 9am when pupils gathered in the school hall. Here the pupils sang happy birthday and class by class got up to place special items into their time capsule. Each class brought something that was distinctive to them. Principal Val Witt explained that the pupils either wrote what they thought life would be like in 25 years or who they hoped to become. “The items were all very lovely and novel, some of the pupils cut colour pieces of paper into big stars and on it wrote what they wanted to be in 2041,” said Witt.

She also said that the capsule would not be buried, rather it would covered in a striking colour and placed in a safe compartment. “We decided not to bury it in case we forgot where we placed it,” joked Witt. The capsule would be labelled ‘Do not open until 2041’. After the formalities were over, pupils were ready to add some magnificent hues to their day.

For the celebration, pupils were asked to wear all white for a special colour run that was held on the school’s field. Witt explained the colour run had laps which were ticked off and coloured paint was splattered on the pupils. She added that the paint was splattered on pupils who were not tactile defensive.

One of the pupils, Maxine Nicholson, said the day was absolutely fun and wished that every day was the school’s birthday.
