A day with no shoes

CLAREMONT – Doxa Deo Randburg delivers shoes and clothes to Laerskool Claremont.

Members of Doxa Deo Randburg put together their own ‘Day with no Shoes’ for the pupils of Laerskool Claremont.

The event, which was held at the school on 20 May, made not only the school pupils and staff happy, but also filled hearts of the Doxa Deo team that helped put everything together. On the day, the team spent the day without shoes as they brought all they had donated to the school.

Pastor of the church, AJ Sutton, said that the church’s main objective is to make a difference in people’s lives. “We want to positively impact the society and everyone we come across,” said Sutton. He explained that they saw the global initiative Day Without Shoes and they thought to take part in it. He added that the aim of the initiative is to collect shoes for those less privileged. “We collected the shoes and located schools in the area that needed the donation,” said Sutton. He also said that the school expressed that they also had a need for clothes as well. “The school’s need for clothes did not just stop with the pupils. They also said that there was a need for clothes adults could wear,” said Sutton.

Sutton said that they encouraged the congregation to donate their old shoes and clothes so that those less fortunate than them could feel loved. “Not only did the congregation get involved but companies also joined in on the collection and a few departments from each of the companies decided to do their own in-house collections,” said Sutton. He added that they ended up with a large donation of clothes that they decided to share the goods between Laerskool Claremont and an upliftment programme called Legae La Nnete.

Deputy principal of Laerskool Claremont, Maylah Peterse said that she was very appreciative of what Doxa Deo has done for the school. “Some of the pupils come from tough backgrounds and this would help them a lot, especially now in the winter time,” concluded Peterse.
