Daddies celebrate Daddy Day with their little ones

NORTHCLIFF – Daddies enjoy a morning with their children and an animal show.

Opti-Baby Nursery School hosted their eighth annual Daddy Day on 6 May where fathers spent the morning with their little ones.

The event takes place on the Friday before Mother’s Day, where fathers take time off work to make Mother’s Day gifts with their children. Marita Louw, owner of the nursery school in Northcliff, said that this is a good way for fathers to spend time with their children since mothers are usually more hands-on.

Fathers went to class with their children and participated in the morning programme where they listened to a story, sang nursery rhymes and danced. “This is a great opportunity for the dads to see what their children do every day,” said Louw.

The school has 80 children, Louw said this year was a record where 70 daddies attended. The children who did not have their daddies present were not left out. Uncles, grandfathers, brothers and other father figures were invited. Mommies were also welcomed to come and join the fun if there was no father figure available.

“Everyone participated and the daddies were exhausted at the end of it all,” said Louw.

The day was divided into two with one- to three-year-olds, and the three- to five-year-olds. For entertainment the daddies and the children were treated to an animal show where they could pat animals such as snakes and the softest animal in the world, a chinchilla.
