Enjoy beer the German way

AUCKLAND PARK - Whether you slam, pound, hammer or simply drink your beer, the Schulbasar is the place to be.

Beer, music and a whole lot of family fun is promised at the 109th annual Schulbasar at the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) in the ultimate German experience.

The fun, set for 21 May, starts at 10am at the school in Auckland Park. Tickets are available on Webtickets for R100, which includes a free beer mug for over 18s and R130 on the day, which also includes a free mug.

The Schulbasar caters for the whole family. Each class, from Kindergarten to Grade 11 runs an activity or food stall and there will be over 60 different stands on the day. While the beer tent is the hive of activity on the day, there are numerous activities for the whole family. There is a market with over 35 different craft stalls, numerous car displays and a load of traditional German items.

This year, the school will be running a ‘German Village’ on the field next to the main beer tent area. This area will have German goods, Oettinger Beer and activities for kids.

In the main beer tent, SAB will be present while micro brewers Brauhaus am Damm, Drayman’s, Bitburger and Windermere Cider will also return.

The Dixie Hillbillies band will be there for their second year while an Oompah band and DJ Lloyd will also keep the crowd entertained. The DSJ encourages safety on the roads, and therefore has Uber on board, who are offering all first time riders R150 off their ride when they use the code ‘BASAR16’.
