Pre-school flagged for not meeting requirements

WINDSOR EAST – Pre-school to be investigated by the environmental health inspectors.

During an operation in Windsor, the Linden Police and the environmental inspectors flagged down a pre-school that did not meet the legal requirements.

Rita’s Pre-School on Judges Avenue has only three rooms and 40 children and they all share one bathroom. A health inspector from the City of Joburg  said that the school did not meet the City of Joburg bylaws and that they will have to come back and do a thorough inspection of the premises.

The owner of the pre-school, who did not want to be named, said that she is renting the premises and the property owner is not making any means to help her add an extra toilet and an extra room for the children. The owner of the pre-school said that there is a room where some of the women who help her stay, and she will now have to use it as part of the pre-school. “My other option would have been to use a flat and that is worse than this and very unsafe for the children,” said the owner.

She said that she has been trying to speak to the property owner who has not been very accommodating. “It’s really sad because I am very passionate about helping these parents and their children, the only problem is the area that we are in,” she said. She said that she helps the parents who are mostly foreigners by charging very low fees and she has not received any complaints from the parents.

“The only problem is that the building does not meet legal requirements and this will have to be followed up for the safety of the children,” said Linden Police Sergeant Orden Masupa.
