Grade 1s give Matrics a passport to the night of their lives

VICTORY PARK – De la Salle Holy Cross College host a special ceremony for the Matrics, but the Grade 1s steal the show.

De La Salle Holy Cross College hosted a special Matric dance invitational ceremony where they incorporated both the Grade 1 and Matric pupils.

The Grade 1 pupils were given the great responsibility to hand out invitations to the Matric pupils. The long-standing tradition was held during the high school assembly and the Grade 1s made sure to not let the nerves kick in as they made their way onto the stage accompanied by a Grade 11 pupil.

The manner in which the Matrics receive their invitations changes every year and each ceremony brings along with its own novelty.

Principal of the college, Debbie Harris said that it is always a very exciting occasion full of great surprise.

The Grade 1s individually went onto stage, announced ‘their’ Matric’s name and presented each Matric with a passport-style invite. “It was wonderful for the little ones to take part in the ceremony – and we were very proud of their confidence and enthusiasm,” said Harris.

The school’s Matric Dance, which is held at the school hall, will take place on 6 May. The event is also a chance for the Grade 11s to showcase their party-planning skills as they raise funds for the evening and decorate the venue for the special event.

The school’s annual ‘Come Back, Give Back’ dance is held on the following evening also in the school hall. Invited guest are past pupils and Matric parents. The decorations from the night before will remain the same so that guests can marvel at the Grade 11s hard work. Proceeds of this dance all go to charity.
