Gauteng launches Online Learner Admission Campaign

JOHANNESBURG – Provision has been made to assist parents who do not have access to internet.

The Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi launched the Province’s Online Learner Admission Campaign on 10 April.

This was to encourage parents to register their children for the 2017 academic year using a convenient online method. The pupil admission period for 2017 will officially start on 11 April and end on 7 September.

“Already about 11 000 parents have registered,” said the Gauteng Department of Education’s Acting Head of Communication Oupa Bodibe. Bodibe said that some people might experience some difficulties logging onto the website, “The website cannot cope with the traffic, it is slow. We are however, working with technicians to fix this problem;” he said. He concluded that parents should not worry about their position on the lists, the queuing will only start on Monday. Till then it is just registration.

Parents should register their details online if applying for the first time. They should also verify details if already registered in 2015 or have a child in the Gauteng Department of Education system. Parents should ensure that they submit the required documents to the schools they would have applied at, within 14 days – they cannot apply online if not registered.

To apply, parents should submit the following documents: their ID copy birth certificate of learner, passport and study permit obtained from Home Affairs and proof of address of the parent’s home or work.

Parents should note that there are no transfers for pupilss already registered at schools, they must remain in those schools. There are no re-enrollment for pupils who are currently in Grade 2 to 6 in primary schools. Grade 8 to 11 pupils in secondary schools applications will be processed by schools from 11 to 18 April 2016. No applications for the grades in between must be processed online unless the parents will be relocating in 2017. Parents who are relocating and would like to apply for the in-between grades must consult with the school to verify availability of spaces. Spaces will be confirmed pending the current pupil enrollment and pupil retention’s in each grade, and in line with the capacity of the school.

The department recorded 11 640 parents who utilised the online registration service in 2015.
