Teachers of excellence awarded

DELTA PARK – Teachers of Delta Park School show that the school is on the right track after winning numerous awards.

The Johannesburg North District finals for the 2015 National Teaching Awards was held recently. Staff members of Delta Park School have once again done very well and won many awards.

Deputy Principal, Wilfred Jacobs won second place in the category Excellence in Primary School Leadership, while Grade R teacher, Gillian Townley, won second place in Excellence in Grade R teaching.

Four teachers came in the top five for Excellence in Special Needs and Inclusive Teaching. Teacher Gerda Visser came fifth; remedial therapist, Marina Loots came third; speech and language therapist, Glenda Lubowitz came second and teacher, Sarah van den Heever won this category.

Willemine van Veldan from the nomination team said that this means a great deal for the school and staff involved. “It will improve the awareness of LSEN schools (Learners with Special Education Needs) and the high standard we strive to achieve.”

Wilfred Jacobs said that it makes one feel very good when recognition is given. “It boosts your self-esteem and encourages you to push to do more for the school.” Management of the school, Ronel Weideman said that the awards and the results demonstrate that Delta Park as a school is on the right track.
