Hawks swoop in for the win at the Apax inter-house athletics

WESTDENE – Apax invited pupils from Ihsaan Special Needs School as their honoured guests.

The Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (APAX) held their 6th annual inter-house sports day at Voorentoe High School in Westdene on 5 March.

The three houses: the Hawks, Eagles and Falcons went head to head in athletics. The Hawks were victorious in the end and walked away with the first prize, closely followed by the Eagles while the Falcons walked away with the spirit cup.

The annual event started with 39 pupils six years ago and they now have a total of 387 pupils.

The field was abuzz with activity and colour as the Hawks, Eagles and Falcons started their march. The crowd cheered the teams on excitedly as they performed their war cries. A competitive, yet highly spirited atmosphere was consistent throughout the day as parents and family members cheered the athletes.

Honoured guests were the pupils from Ihsaan Special Needs School. APAX invites these challenged learners to participate every year and the crowd cheered and encouraged them as they bravely took to the tracks.

“The management, principal, PTA and staff would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of the event,” said the Auckland Park Academy of Excellence senior administrator, Fazela Amod.
