FAIRLAND – Fairland Police Station reports a quiet weekend but warns residents about other crimes in the area.

Fairland Police Station reports a quiet weekend with a total of nine suspects arrested between 12 to 14 February.

Constable Moloko Kgatla, communications officer for the Fairland Police Station, said that the suspects were charged with varying crimes including, assault GBH, common assault, reckless driving, hit-and-run and drunken and disorderly conduct.

Const Kgatla pointed out that within their patrol areas they experienced problems with housebreakings as well as theft out of motor vehicle.

“Residents must ensure that they have locked their homes at night and when they are not at home. They must also ensure that they have activated their alarm systems and ensure that it is working at all times. Electric fences must also be checked on a regular basis,” Const Kgatla explained.

He pointed out the hotspots for the theft out of motor vehicle as: Blackheath, the McDonald’s corner Beyers Naudé and Pendoring drives, where many residents have had things stolen out of their cars.

Const Kgatla pleaded with residents to be alert at all times when parking their cars.

“When locking their car, residents must ensure that the car is physically locked by checking the doors. In order to avoid being a target, residents must not leave their valuables lying around the car as it attracts criminals,” he cautioned.

He concluded by encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.
