Love your children this Valentine’s Day
JOBURG – Break tradition and spoil your children in the month of love.
Afrika Tikkun encourages parents to cherish their children this February with the Valentine’s 14-Day Parent Challenge.
“Valentine’s Day is traditionally a day for you and your partner or spouse to celebrate romance. This Valentine’s Day, Afrika Tikkun would like to do something for our precious little ones,” said Vanessa Mentor, early childhood development expert.
“We need love from the moment we are born, love makes us flourish and grow. As a way of promoting the importance of the involvement of parents in their child’s development, I am encouraging you to take the Valentine’s Day Challenge with the children in your life,” Mentor added.
Valentine’s 14 Day Parent Challenge:
- Day 1: Invite your child to cook with you
- Day 2: Tell your child funny or wonderful stories from your family history
- Day 3: Book time – make time to read to your child
- Day 4: While your child is talking, put aside what you are doing and give them your full attention
- Day 5: Leave little love notes or draw pictures of love together
- Day 6: Take your child for a walk and tell them how much you love them, as you experience the outdoors together
- Day 7: Put on some music and have a dance party
- Day 8: Together look through photos of when they were babies and tell them how special they are
- Day 9: Accept all your child’s emotions without correcting them
- Day 10: Have a ‘no-electronics day’ and play games or board games
- Day 11: Make one-on-one special time with each child if you have two or more children
- Day 12: Spend time with your child or children in their rooms
- Day 13: Switch roles and pretend to be the child
- Day 14: Give your child hugs, hugs, hugs and more hugs.
