From stay-at-home mom to communications officer for Brixton Police Station

BRIXTON – Meet the new communications officer for Brixton Police Station.

Jeanette Backhoff has recently been appointed as the new communications officer for Brixton Police Station after serving for over 13 years as the PA for the Station Commander.

“I will take this appointment in my stride but will still be executing my duties to the Station Commander,” Backhoff said.

She explained that she found her job easy, enjoyable and loves the support she received from her colleagues at the station. “Sometimes you do get fed up with things that happen at work but because of the passion that I have, I am motivated to come back and give my best,”she noted.

The mother of three has been married for over 23 years and said that her husband supported her wholeheartedly as he was always there and completely understood the nature of her job.

“Before I worked for the South African Police Service, I was a stay-at-home mom but when my first child started pre-school I applied for a post at the Sandton Police Station and began working until I was transferred to the Brixton Police Station,”she added.

When Backhoff is not working tirelessly she enjoys shopping, spending time with her family and painting table cloths.

“I really enjoy painting table cloths and it started when I was looking for a table cloth but it looked so boring I thought I could spruce it up a little bit. My first table cloth took almost two years to complete but it was worth it,” she said.

She pointed out that she looked forward to the challenges she would face in her new position but added that she would handle them head-on.

” I just want residents to know that I am a friendly person and all residents need to do is pick up the phone and call me. I will do my best to assist them,” she concluded.
