Rubbish piling up in Westdene

WESTDENE – Residents worry about their health because of the rotting waste in their streets.

Residents have raised their concerns over a fast-growing illegal dumping site next to the walls of a business property.

They are worried about their health because plastic bags containing rotting household waste are piling up on the corner of Dublin and 1st Avenue, in Westdene.

Frikkie Botes of the Westdene Johannesburg Crow said even after years of complaining about the rubbish, it is getting worse from week to week.

Ward 69 Councillor Katja Naumann said the situation in Westdene mirrors similar sites across Ward 69, Region B as well as the City of Joburg.

She said Pikitup is aware of this and struggling with breakdowns as they attempt to undo the damage of the strike.

Councillor Naumann added that this requires the patience and cooperation of all concerned.

“I have again, requested a coordinated plan for the area from Pikitup as there has unfortunately been no communication regarding any special interventions,” the Councillor concluded.
