Top Matric pupils inspire children at RENS

ROOSEVELT PARK – Two Matric pupils visit RENS to share their knowledge with the Grade R children.

Two former pupils of Roosevelt Extension Nursery School (RENS) paid the school a visit to give tips to the children.

Nina Rose Tidy (18), Matric pupil at Northcliff High School and Slade Hodge (18), from Parktown Boys’ High School shared their experiences that stemmed from attending RENS with the younger schoolchildren.

The twosome gave advice to the young audience, that included attending school every day and being on time, getting enough sleep, always doing your homework, handing in your projects on time and playing sport.

Tidy received the D K Lindemann Trophy for Scholar of the Year as well as the Optimus Omnium Award for overall top achievement, while Hodge received the B A Logie Award for the Dux Scholar.

“We are tremendously proud of both Nina Tidy and Slade Hodge along with many other past pupils who visit us often and have kept active in their community. Talks like these are very impressionable on young minds and we’re honoured that they have taken the time to make a difference in others’ lives,” said RENS Principal, Carol Weideman.

The top achievers attended RENS from 2000 until 2003 and their most fondest memories include, building a fort in the garden out of boxes and planks, and dress-up days.

“I remember eating the dough during baking every week and usually ended up sending a small batch of cookies to the oven,” said Tidy.

“The days I spent at RENS were exciting and I am still friends with many of the people who attended nursery school with me, even though we went to different primary and high schools,” said Hodge.
