Wife of former Springbok, passes away at age of 95

BLACKHEATH – The wife of former Springbok player passes away four months after her husband's passing.

Hansie Malan (95), the wife of late Springbok rugby player, Piet Malan, passed away on 25 November. Piet Malan died at the age of 96 on 5 July and he was the oldest living Springbok rugby player before he died.

The couple lived in Blackheath for 12 years. According to the couple’s daughter, Ettie Brummer, her mother passed away due to a light stroke, but she believed that her mother really died of a broken heart, because of her father’s death. The couple were married for 67 years.

“My mother was a teacher most of her life and most recently taught at Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys in Linden. She was very loved, and a very endearing person.” said Brummer. Hansie Malan’s funeral was on 1 December.

Malan is survived by four daughters, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
