Refuse collection will commence 30 Nov

JHB - Pikitup said refuge collection will continue at the normal allocated times despite the current strike.

Pikitup has said as from 30 November normal refuse collection rounds will resume in accordance with the normal collection schedule even though Pikitup workers are on strike.

Pikitup spokesperson Jacky Mashapu said residents are urged to take out their bins in accordance with their normal refuse collection schedule.

He added that any excess refuge must be placed in black bags next to their 240 litre waste bins on the scheduled collection day.

“Additional vehicles, plant, equipment and manpower has been made available to augment capacity at each depot,” said Mashapu.

Mashapu also said Pikitup will start a project at 3pm on 29 November to clean up the inner city.

“Pikitup has arranged a project to pick up all litter in and around the inner city of Johannesburg to create a cleaner environment,”said Mashapu.

He concluded by saying he is not sure how long the strike will continue but that Pikitup will meet with the workers on 30 November to come to a conclusion.
