BERARIO – The outlaws are in town, and they want you to dance
Outlaws SA Line Dancers want you to join the group of bandits when you feel the urge to do something out of your ordinary routine.
The group is owned and run by Nancy Mawdsley, an ebullient woman with a love for life and all things extraordinary. Mawdsley said that she was introduced to dance by her mother and sister who were tap dancers.
“I come from a family of dancers, my mother and sister were both great tap dancers,” said Mawdsley.
When asked how it came about that she teaches line dance she said that she wanted to teach something everyone can do.
“If you can walk, then you can dance,” said Mawdsley.
The group, which started about 14 years ago, is open to all ages, and Mawdsley appeals to all to come in and join in on the fun
“You never know what you can do until you try it, you have nothing to lose, yet everything to gain,” remarked Mawdsley.
Dancers of the group said that Mawdsley is part of the reason they enjoy the dance.
Gail Waldeck, a line dancer for 10 years with the group, said that line dance has made her very happy.
“This is really fun, over the years it has evolved and now we dance to more modern music,” said Waldeck.
She also endorsed that people not give up so easily.
“Do as much as you can and be patient, we all have to start somewhere,” said Waldeck.
Margaret Taylor, who has been dancing for seven years, said that she loved that it was a great form of exercise.
“It’s really a lot of fun, great exercise and the group has great camaraderie,” disclosed Taylor.
Outlaws SA Line Dance will be dancing at Anne Harding Cheshire Home on 28 November.
The group has their classes on Tuesdays, at St Mungos Church in Bryanston, and Thursdays at Berario Community Centre 7.30pm – 10 pm.
