A massive burglary at Emmarentia Primary School

EMMARENTIA – Burglars steal computers at Emmarentia Primary School to the value of R250 000.

There was a massive burglary at Emmarentia Primary School on 12 November.

It is alleged that an unknown number of people gained entrance through the school roof and stole IT equipment estimated at R250 000.

They allegedly stole all computers and other important equipment.

The burglars allegedly cut open the strong room with a grinder to remove the entire door.

When contacted for comment, the school officials refused to comment about the matter.

“I can’t speak to the media,” said one woman from the school office.

Rosebank Police spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe said a case of business burglary has been opened.

He said, “I can confirm that computers were stolen by unknown people in the evening. So far we have no suspects and no arrest have been made.”

Mdletshe said usually these thugs start by cutting alarm cables before committing their crimes.

The Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane confirmed that a case of burglary has been opened by the school at Parkview

Police Station on 13 November.

She said the department is very concerned about this incident, which took place in the early hours of the morning, as the burglars gained entry through the roof using a grinder. Sekhonyane said the wiring of the alarm system was cut off.

“They managed to steal all the IT equipment estimated to the value of R250 000,” said Sekhonyane.

She said the school is fitted with security cameras and contracted Chubb Security Company to monitor the school.

Sekhonyane said the Department of Education appeals to anyone in the community, who might have information to please come forward and assist the department in tracing the burglars.
