I agree 100 per cent with Merrilyn Bayne of Northcliff with her comments in the above letter. My comments relate to neighbourhoods that have developed close-density housing like sectional title properties as the “generator operators” do not heed the following:

1. Sectional Title conduct rules related to noise are ignored and selfish individuals install noisy generators without permission from the Body Corporate

2. Neighbours not only suffer the noise but also air pollution due to the high density development. While the owners of the generator enjoy “lights on” the next-door neighbours endure being fumigated out of their units due to the fumes emitted by these noisy machines flooding their exclusive use areas. It is not easy to remove the fumes without electrical power of some kind – so they suffer!

3. A third factor related to these installations is the safety factor as a reserve supply of fuel may also be stored and this could affect the Body Corporate Insurance of the Sectional Title complex.

There are alternative machines that can be installed that are user-friendly to the neighbours.

Back-up battery-inverters that are available in different sizes and depending on the size of the machine, offer a reasonable time for restricted lights, TV or computers.

These emit no sound or fumes.

Maybe the bylaws related to noise, air pollution and flammable fuel being safely stored should be addressed.
