Closures and disruptions along Oxford Road

BLAIGOWRIE – Motorists in Ward 117 should expect a possible road closure during the EFF march.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck warned residents of his ward about the possible road closures on 27 October during the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) march.

“I don’t really see any problem. I think it will go well but roads may be closed for about three hours during the march,” he said. He advised motorists to use Jan Smuts and Louis Botha avenues for north-south movement.

He explained that it would cause congestion along those roads as well and motorists should be patient and expect a 30-minute delay on their journey.

The march will have several knock-on effects in and around the eastern end of Ward 117 as well as in the Joburg CBD, along the major north-south transport spine of Oxford and Rivonia roads and then in the Sandton CBD.

“Please be aware of the likelihood of disruption and also please ensure that properties and businesses along the route are warned of the march so that they are prepared to either stay inside or stay away from the area,” explained councillor Truluck.

A group of about 5 000 to 10 000 people are expected to march to the Chamber of Mines and hand over a memorandum at 10am and then proceed to JSE and Sandton Central along Oxford and Rivonia roads.

He concluded that it was suggested that businesses situated along the route should consider not scheduling meetings that need to be attended by visitors in the afternoon.
