MELVILLE – Crime-fiction author Deon Meyer launches his new book in Melville.
The well known crime-fiction author Deon Meyer launched his new book, Icarus at the Bamboo Lifestyle Centre in Melville on 1 October.
The new novel is about the mystery of uncovering the truth behind the murder of a notorious Internet entrepreneur, whose body is found washed up in the river.
“The novel will keep you on the edge of your seat and will be hard to put down,”said Meyer.
Meyer said he does not believe that one has to feel inspired to write a book but that it is more of a passion.
“I love writing. I do not have to get inspiration from anywhere, it comes naturally,” said Meyer.
Meyer has a BA-degree from North-West University and BA (Hons) from the University of the Free State.
He furthered his studies with a Master’s degree at Stellenbosch University.
Besides being an author, Meyer is also a well-known director and script writer.
He has written the scripts for four South African films and two mini-series.
Meyer said he believes the future for young writers in South Africa is bright and “with hard work and dedication their way will be paved in the writing world.”
He also advised aspiring writers,”The market for South African writers is growing drastically and the local support is brilliant, don’t hesitate to start writing.”
Meyer said besides being a writer he also keeps himself busy with activities such as cooking, reading, mountain biking and motorcycling.
