Man murdered while mourning at Westpark Cemetery

MONTGOMERY PARK – Businessman from Fordsburg is shot eight times while mourning at his mother's grave.

A businessman from Fordsburg was shot eight times, and killed, on 26 September at the Westpark Cemetery, while mourning at his mother’s grave.

Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said the motive for the crime is still unknown but it does not appear to be a robbery.

“Two men approached the victim carrying a ladder which is suspected to have been used to climb over the wall. The reason why they shot the man does not seem like robbery as nothing was stolen. Details are still sketchy,” said WO De Bruyn.

He added that the man was shot eight times but only seven bullet casings were found at the scene.

De Bruyn continued that a case of murder has been opened at the Sophiatown Police Station and that the case is currently under investigation.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo spokesperson Jenny Moodley said she can confirm the incident but cannot comment until a formal police report has been given back to them.
