Kwanele Kwanele

PARKTOWN – Partnership between pupils from McAuley House School and pupils from the Deutsche Internationale Schule of Johannesburg stand against women and child abuse.

Women’s Month may have gone and passed but pupils from McAuley House School and the Deutsche Internationale Schule of Johannesburg are standing firm against women and child abuse. With South Africa having the highest rape statistic in the world, where a woman is raped every 30 seconds, ‘Kwanele Kwanele’, which means ‘enough is enough’, is an initiative started by McAuley House School in Parktown to address this growing issue.

Marketing and public relations manager Savo Ceprnich from the DSJ said that pupils lined outside their schools on Napier Road on 18 September to show their support for women and children who go through abuse on a daily basis. ” ‘Enough is enough’ is the slogan for the drive, and when it was chanted during the march, cars would hoot back in solidarity,” Ceprnich said.

Ceprnich pointed out that sexual and physical abuse was committed regardless of race, gender, age or social background and it affected entire societies. “We are hoping that through this initiative change is effected and that women who are going through any kind of abuse can gain the courage and go to their nearest police station and report these crimes,” Ceprnich added.

Another march is set for 29 September where both schools will be joined by the police in their bid to curb the scourge of abuse, not only in South Africa but the world over.
