GALLERY: Retiring after years of dedication
BLAIREGOWRIE– Executive Officer Diane Beeton is retiring after being part of the Delta Enviromental Centre for 27 years.
As with every journey in life, there is a beginning and an end. Executive officer of the Delta Environmental Centre Diana Beeton (66) has been part of the centre of the past 27 years and executive officer for 20 years.
Beeton who is fondly known as ‘Di’ is retiring after many years of service, dedication and passion. She started working at the Delta Environmental Centre as a part time education officer. “I was a geography teacher by profession where I was involved in working with schools, youth groups and teachers about sustaining the environment,” she said.
“I enjoy seeing young people in the early stages of their development progress into environmental leaders where students are offered an opportunity to complete an accredited diploma in National Environmental Education Training and Development Practice. This qualification is accredited by ETDP-SETA .”
Beeton said that she is proud to see young people complete the course which will open many doors for them to study further. She describes her journey as part of the Delta team as a fulfilling experience and believes it is the right time to retire. ” I believe I have reached the age where is is time for me to retire, also see it as a good opportunity to give a young person the platform to embark of this journey and it’s challenges for another 20 years,” she said.
The board of directors are in the process of selecting her successor when she retires early next year. “In my retirement I plan on compiling a book that I’ve already started doing the research for, that is inspired by Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management [by an author with the same name]. I also plan on traveling with my husband and spending more time with family,” she said.
Beeton will be missed by many who are inspired by her dedication, humility and passion for the environment. Education Officer Tsiki Qhaba for 15 years said that “Di is an open person who is approachable inside and outside the office.” She has taught me to do things with passion with the people we interact and work with,” Qhaba said.
